Vino, Olives… & Horses!

IMG_3037

I recently saddled up on a sunny Saturday afternoon with a few of my closest girlfriends for some lazy vinos with a difference.

We headed down to the Red Hill Horseback Winery Tours opting for the three hour ride which included two different winery stop offs along the way.  We were each paired with a horse according to our riding ability, with mine definitely in his old age as he happily clip clopped along… (I was not complaining!)

Our first stop was the oh-so-popular T’Gallant and after a few sips on their ‘Juliet’ Pinot Noir & Pinot Grigio (personal favourites) we were back in the stirrups heading towards Green Olive.

Green Olive  is a hidden treasure in the Red Hill winery district offering a relaxed feel amongst the natural environment with a charming, yet modern edge. Not only does this handy little winery grow its own grapes but also yummy olives, herbs and vegies, all of which are available to purchase on site in their barn style cafe/restaurant.

After a relaxing hour with a few bottles of wine and delicious selection of locally produced antipasto in the sun, we were back on the horse and heading home… The day was filled with lots of laughter, tasty food, great wine….and sore bottoms!

So, if you are looking for a great day out, keen to mix it up and try something new, then a horseback winery tour is a great idea. Alternatively, if you would rather leave the horses in the paddock, I highly recommend escaping the crowds and spending a blissful afternoon at Green Olive!

**If you go on the afternoon horseback tour, make sure you pack a jumper; it can get a little cooler than expected.
