A dose of TLC…

Authentic Thai food with fresh ingredients is hard to find, particularly on the Peninsula, so when a friend took me for dinner at The Lighthouse Café (TLC) recently I was pleasantly surprised!

I took the scenic route to McCrae, winding my way along the beach. With the sun setting and stormy clouds ahead, I stopped off at Anthony’s Nose to soak in the view.

The Lighthouse Café is, funnily enough, opposite the old Lighthouse in McCrae!

This historical structure is listed on Victoria’s Historic Buildings Register and is one of only two such lighthouses  remaining in Australia. At 33.5 metres, it is the tallest building along Port Phillip Bay.

The secluded huddle of shops located in McCrae is often missed or bypassed as many people whiz down to the more popular towns on the peninsula, but definitely worth the stop off if you have the time (Dromana exit if coming via freeway).

Already brimming with people on a balmy evening, I can only imagine it will continue to get busier as the summer months roll in.

We booked (highly advisable) and ordered a sample plate of entrees (the pork dumplings and Thai fish cakes are AMAZING!) sharing a couple of mains which included crispy fried rocking (fresh and juicy) with steamed vegies & fresh coriander as well as the red curry chicken laced with sweet basil (tasty)!

The Lighthouse cafe rocks out a modern feel, with dark wood and Thai tapestries lining the walls. The service was quick and extremely hospitable to all dietary requests … We happily paid $30 per head including drinks, leaving with very full and satisfied tummys!

So if you’re after a delicious meal or have a hankering for Thai, then a drive to McCrae is in order for some much needed TLC.
