The Pantry Stocked Full of Surprises…
Peninsula Pantry is a fabulous food oasis tucked away in the back streets of Rye… and whilst I am reluctant to reveal this absolute gem to the rest of the world, as a child I was always taught it is nice to share!
This converted old general store is home to amazing food, ridiculously good coffee and a very friendly bunch of accommodating staff. In addition to this, Peninsula Pantry proudly cooks and bakes everything on site (except for the beautiful Lie Vito bread) sourcing their ingredients from as many local producers possible …
We arrived at about 10am on a Sunday to a choc-a-bloc cafe, but after such rave reviews from others, I simply had to stick it out and wait for a table.. The friendly staff jumped at the opportunity to seat our group of 6, immediately whipping out the back and bringing out more tables setting them up for us in the sun … I was already impressed.

The coffee was flawless ( I had 2, I never have 2!) and the food to die for… The menu (both sit & take away) offers a wide range for both the sweet and savoury tooth, with heaps of gluten free & vegetarian options available for the picky eaters (like myself!)…
We tried….
- The Beetroot Breaky which had poached eggs (free range) on Lie Vito sourdough with avocado mash, roasted tomatoes, feta and beetroot relish
- Home made (gluten free) cornbread with avacado, crumbled feta & two poached eggs…
And two specials of the day
- Plush pancakes with ice-cream, strawberries topped with sticky honeycomb
- Corn fritter with tomato salsa, spinach & two softly poached eggs.

The food was superb….rich in flavour and incredibly tasty… After a lazy two hour breakfast I was unable to squeeze in anymore food, so settled on taking away some of the sweeter treats that the Peninsula Panty also has on offer…
I selected the homemade donuts which were plump and dripping with jam as well as the small cheesecake which was soft, creamy and topped with a variety of sweet berries….
For a filling, healthy, well cooked and delicious meal, two coffees and a pot of tea it came to a mere total of $25 per head…!
